Frequently Asked Questions About Our Digitization Services
Our expert technicians have been digitizing memories since 2002. Here are answers to the most common questions about our professional format digitization services.
Expert Guidance: Our preservation specialists have processed over 100,000 family collections and can handle any format challenge.
Photo Scanning Services
Professional digitization with color correction and enhancement
Multiple delivery options for your convenience: Once your photos are professionally digitized by our preservation specialists, you can choose to receive them on a USB flash drive, a set of DVDs, or as a secure digital download. Your digital images are delivered as high-quality JPEG files, making them easy to share, store, and print. For DVD orders, we optimize the disc space to fit as many images as possible while maintaining quality.
Professional enhancement included: Our expert preservation artists begin by carefully cleaning your photos with compressed air to remove loose dust and debris. Each image is then professionally scanned using high-resolution equipment. We include professional color correction to improve faded colors and adjust for age-related discoloration, enhancing your photos as much as possible within the limitations of the original condition. This professional enhancement is included for all photo and film formats.
Order preservation guaranteed: We understand how important chronological order is for your memories. Our technicians meticulously maintain the exact order in which you send your photos. We recommend packing your images securely in your MemoryBox to prevent shifting during transit. Each batch is processed sequentially, and your digital files will be numbered and organized to match your original arrangement.
Expert handling of rare formats: Specialty items are photos in less common formats that require additional expertise and specialized equipment. While most scanning services only handle standard 35mm slides and negatives, we've invested in custom scanning equipment designed specifically for rare formats like 126, 110, 127 slides, medium format film, and glass-mounted slides. These items may require additional charges due to the specialized handling and equipment setup required, but we're one of the few services that can digitize them professionally.
High-resolution scanning for quality results: We scan standard prints at 600 DPI (8 megapixels from a 4x6 print), slides at 2000 DPI, and negatives at 2000-4000 DPI depending on format. These resolutions ensure excellent quality for both digital viewing and printing. Your digital files will be suitable for enlargements and will look great on modern high-resolution displays.
Video Tape to Digital Conversion
Once your tapes are digitized by our team of preservation artists they will be placed on either a flash drive, DVD, or available for digital download. You will be able to choose how you wish to receive your image files at checkout. Your videos will be delivered as MP4 files making them easy to share and store.
We count one tape as one item regardless of length; it could have 1 minute of video or 8 hours.
We do our best to try to get any video we can off of every tape. We actually can't know it's empty until we've transferred it, so it still counts as an item. Some tapes have problems playing back or experience tracking issues. We will try transferring those tapes several times on different machines. For that reason, a tape that can't be transferred will still count as an item even if we can't return any usable video to you from the tape.
Yes, we will return all of your original tapes along with your newly digitized videos.
Yes! We offer professional tape repair services for $30 per tape. We can splice back together tape, repair broken tape housing, and fix many types of tape damage. For mold-damaged tapes, we offer professional mold cleaning service for $60 per tape. Please call us at 1-866-364-5952 to add these services to your order.
Our standard video transfer service captures the video exactly as it plays back without editing. However, we do offer custom video editing services for additional charges, including removing unwanted portions, combining segments, and basic corrections. Contact us for pricing on custom editing services.
8mm and 16mm Home Movie Film
Once your movie reels are digitized by our team of preservation artists, they will be placed on either a flash drive, DVD, or be available for digital download. You will be able to choose how you wish to receive your video files at checkout. Your movies will be delivered as MP4 files, making them easy to share and store.
We will consolidate and return your reels on new archival reels that are safer and easier to store along with all of your original reels and packaging. Film that is received on high quality archival reels will not be placed on new archival reels.
We do everything we can to keep your home movies in order. If you have dates or reel numbers written on your film, we will transfer them in logical order.
Sound included for 16mm Optical and Super8 film with sound.
Film reels are measured in 50-foot increments, with each 50-foot segment counting as one item. For example: a 100-foot reel counts as 2 items, a 200-foot reel counts as 4 items, and a 400-foot reel counts as 8 items. This measurement system ensures accurate pricing based on the actual amount of film being digitized.
